They were a development from the Germanic peplos like dresses, worn with a long under tunic. The diamond twill weave is a status symbol, as such weavings were very common. They also add extra durability to the seams of the garment. This warm dress made from 100% recycled wool fabric is perfect for Viking reenactment on cooler days.
