Helmets such as these were worn between 550 and 1066, and it is a fine early medieval model based on an original from Valsgrde, Sweden. Valsgrde was only 3 km from Gamla Uppsala, the old centre of the Swedish kings and the seat of pagan belief in Sweden. The helmet is constructed from steel plates attached to one another
